Common Time on Apr. 24 celebrates Faculty Excellence Awards & emeritus professors

All members of the College community are invited to celebrate at the 2023 Faculty Excellence Awards presentations during Common Time on Monday, April 24, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., in the Conference Center.

The event recognizes recipients and nominees for the House/Bruckmann Faculty Excellence Award, recipients of the Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award, and recipients of Professor Emeritus status.

The awards ceremony will be an in-person event this year, so please plan to join your colleagues at the 2023 celebration, which will also recognize those who received awards at virtual ceremonies during the pandemic years.

The newest recipient of Professor Emeritus status is Dr. A. Janelle McCord.

Dr. McCord retired in 2022 after 38 years of service to the College as a faculty member and academic administrator.

  • For most of her career, Dr. McCord was a faculty member and Program Chair for the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. The program consistently received accolades from accreditors and maintained 100% job placement for graduates (or close to 100%) for many years. Dr. McCord also championed including co-op education opportunities as part of the MLT curriculum, in addition to unpaid clinical experiences.
  • She was a four-time nominee for the House/Bruckmann Award, and she helped to establish the faculty Peer Mentoring program at the College.
  • Janelle also was a founding member of the AAUP Chapter at Cincinnati State and served as a chapter officer and as a member of the negotiating team for the first AAUP contract in 1990.
  • From 2018 to 2022, Dr. McCord was the Dean of the Health & Public Safety Division.

  • 2020: Dr. Paul Davis, Linda Schaffeld, and Jeff Sheldon

Professor Emeritus status may be awarded to a retired faculty member who served for at least 15 years in a full-time faculty role.

  • A nomination must be prepared by a current tenured faculty member and forwarded to the Faculty Senate.
  • The Faculty Senate then seeks support for Emeritus Professor recommendations through voting by all current tenured faculty members.
