Biology class included hands-on learning at Cincinnati Zoo
Students in the Biology 2 class (BIO 132) taught by Professor Mark Tiemeier class during Spring Semester 2026 enjoyed a field trip to the Cincinnati Zoo as part of their course.
During a special April 2026 offering of the Zoo’s “Wings of Wonder” presentation, students gained hands-on knowledge about bird and animal behaviors, led by two bird trainers who have Cincinnati State connections.

The students’ close encounters with birds and other creatures were led by Biology adjunct instructor Eddie Annal and Cincinnati State graduate Keri Ann Bolerjack, who earned a degree in Audio/Video Production before pursuing a career in animal training.
BIO 132 student Sawyer Va said, “It was an amazing experience to get to see and hold one of the birds on my arm, and even have it hit me with its wing when it flew by.”
Makaylah Hughes said, “I had an extraordinary time during our sneak peek at what the ‘Wings of Wonder’ crew was working on. It was amazing to see such unique and beautiful birds up close, and to learn about them.”
Salif Kouriba added, “Witnessing the birds following the instructions from the trainers was cool and helped me understand the concept of conditioning better than I did before.”
