When weather outside is frightful, CState has protocols for closing (or not)

Winter in Cincinnati sometimes produces snow, ice, bitter cold, or other natural (or unnatural) phenomena that can interrupt College operations–or lead to questions from students and employees about whether changes in College operations ought to be happening.

Those who are uncertain about College protocols for bad weather days should review the Weather Closing/Delay page of the College website.

The guidelines state (in part):

College administrators consider several factors when deciding on a weather delay or closing, including conditions on our campuses and on area roads, as well as weather predictions.

A decision to close or delay is made as early as possible, and is communicated by 6 a.m. to local radio and TV stations.

Decisions may be made and communicated at other times than early morning, depending on the specific weather event.

Other ways to find out Cincinnati State’s status on a bad weather day include:

  • Students and employees receive notification by phone, text message, and/or email via CState Alert
  • Look for an announcement on the homepage of the College website
  • Check the College’s social media (Facebook, Instagram, or X (formerly Twitter)
  • Call (513) 569-1500 for recorded information

Faculty members should make sure their students receive clear information about course procedures and expectations for days when in-person classes are canceled or delayed. You can share this information via the course syllabus and/or course Blackboard site.

Faculty members also should be aware of– or should seek information if needed– regarding program, department, and/or division policies and procedures for students and for instructors related to missed classes.
