Tenured faculty can apply for a 2024-25 sabbatical leave; applications due by Feb. 1

Dec 6, 2023

Tenured faculty members are invited to consider applying for a sabbatical leave to be taken during the 2024-25 academic year.

Applications can be submitted until February 1, 2024, and sabbatical recipients will be announced in Spring Semester 2024.

Any tenured faculty member who has not taken a sabbatical leave in the past 5 years is eligible to apply for a sabbatical, which provides a one- or two-semester release from typical faculty work.

Many past sabbatical recipients report that taking a sabbatical provides time to refresh your thinking and replenish your enthusiasm for your faculty responsibilities, while completing work that has value to you and to the College.

Two types of sabbaticals may be granted:

  • Project: The faculty member undertakes specific activities that could involve planned study, research, travel, program or department development, return to industry, or other approved creative work of benefit to the faculty member and to the College.
  • Advanced Degree: The faculty member pursues an advanced degree necessary to start or continue the operation of an academic program or department.
  • The steps of the sabbatical application process are described in Article 15 of the Cincinnati State AAUP Collective Bargaining Agreement.
    • Applications are evaluated by the Sabbatical Review Board, which includes elected faculty representatives and the four academic deans.
    • Applications recommended by the Sabbatical Review Board are then reviewed by the Provost and the President before final approval by the College’s Board of Trustees.

Before completing a sabbatical application, the faculty member should meet with your dean to discuss the proposed project or degree. This meeting also can begin the conversation about how the College will provide coverage for your faculty responsibilities if you are awarded a sabbatical leave.
