Help K-8 students by joining the CState “Adopt A Class” mentor team for 2023-24

Jul 31, 2023

Cincinnati State’s initial group of mentors for the non-profit organization Adopt A Class Cincinnati volunteered their time and expertise to assist area 5th and 6th grade students during the 2022-23 school year, leading to recognition of the College as a finalist for the Adopt A Class “Partner of the Year” Award.

Cincinnati State’s volunteer efforts also are described in this Adopt A Class Community Impact Report (click to download).

  • The Adopt A Class model pairs teams of mentors from a business or organization with a classroom teacher (Kindergarten through 8th grade).
  • Throughout the school year, mentors engage with their students for one hour, once a month, through classroom visits, educational activities, field trips, and “pen palling,” with emphasis on College & Career, Essential Employability Skills, and STE(A)M Activities (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math).
Now, the CState Adopt A Class team is seeking additional volunteers to work with students from underserved communities from October 2023 through May 2024.
  • At information sessions (via Zoom) on August 15, 16, and 17, you can learn more about how to join the team. Mentor Team Leader Mollie Miller will discuss expectations, time commitments, and training, as well as potential school locations and grade levels where CState Adopt A Class team members can get involved.
