CState is a “Partner of the Year” for Adopt A Class organization

Celebrating the College's "Partner of the Year" recognition: Kim Taylor, Lauren Sample, Debbie Poweleit, Karen Jones, Emily Helmers, Tom Hale, and Mollie Miller

Cincinnati State was recognized as a finalist for “Program Partner of the Year” at the awards celebration held by Adopt A Class Cincinnati on June 14.

The Cincinnati State team was nominated from among more than 1,000 mentor teams serving K-12 schools in the tri-state area.
During the 2022-23 school year, three mentor teams from Cincinnati State worked with 6th grade students from the Academy of World Languages (Cincinnati Public Schools) and Wildwood Elementary in Middletown.
In addition to those pictured above, mentors included Meg Clark, Kristi Drout, Denise Gabrelski, Myra Justus, Jeaneen Mullins, Carla Rhoades, and Michael Vanfleet.

Mollie Miller, Director of Institutional Research and a coordinator of Cincinnati State’s Adopt A Class efforts, said, “It was an honor to be nominated for our rookie year of participation with Adopt A Class. Our mentor teams loved engaging with and teaching the 6th graders, and we can’t wait for next year!”

Mollie said those who are interested in joining the mentor teams can reach out to her now (mollie.miller@cincinnatistate.edu) but a call for volunteers will be coming soon to prepare for the start of the new school year.

Adopt A Class is a non-profit organization that connects businesses, civic groups, and higher education institutions to support students in K-12 schools, with a goal of “exposing students to a breadth of life and career experiences so they can unleash their full potential.”

Adopt A Class mentors engage with their adopted classes through monthly visits, educational activities, and field trips. Currently, more than 160 business and community groups are serving over 6,750 students in Greater Cincinnati.
