“In the Zone” organization offered educational exhibit to recognize Pride Month

In honor of Pride Month, Cincinnati State’s “In The Zone” organization hosted an information table on June 21 to educate about the historic Stonewall Riots and to celebrate LGBTQ+ diversity.

Visitors to the information table were encouraged to select a button to display their personal pronouns along with Progress Pride Flag artwork created by Computer Software Development major Lune Aliff.

The Pride Month celebration included messages on Clifton Campus electronic billboards, with graphics created by Web & Digital Manager Brittany King.

Testing Center Coordinator Dawn Wilke said, “The goal of the Pride Month event was to help all students feel welcome at Cincinnati State and to promote understanding of the history behind the Pride movement.”

She added, “Education and understanding can lead to acceptance. Diversity is good for everyone, and it’s important to protect and nurture our LGBTQIA+ community.“

Library Specialist Margaret Breidenbaugh noted that the Cincinnati State Library has resources available to help educate members of the community about empathy for others.

The In the Zone student organization at Cincinnati State works to provide a safe, supportive environment for gay, lesbian, transgender, and questioning students and their straight allies.
