“Blackboard 101” training for new instructors starts May 8

The Office of Online Learning does not have any scheduled sessions during the week of May 1-5 but individual assistance with Blackboard and Zoom is available by appointment.

“Blackboard 101” sessions for new instructors will be available starting Monday, May 8, and will be offered several times in May.

Blackboard 101 is facilitated by Dr. Jon McKamey, Instructional Designer.

Instructors who are not familiar with Blackboard or want to brush up on the basics are welcome to this hands-on, in-person training. Sessions are offered:

  • Monday, May 8 – 10 a.m.-1 p.m. – Main 347
  • Wednesday, May 10 – noon to 3 p.m. – Main 347
  • Thursday, May 11 – 9 a.m.-noon – Main 347
  • Tuesday, May 16 – 5-8 p.m. – Main 347
  • Wednesday, May 31 – 9 a.m.-noon – Main 347

Attendees should be familiar with basic keyboarding and mouse skills, navigating the Internet, and searching for and finding files.

Topics covered include:

  • How to log onto the MyCState/Blackboard site
  • How to navigate within the MyCState environment
  • How to modify a course site and customize it for your individual needs
  • How to add and manage course folders and materials
  • How to add and maintain announcements
  • How to use the Blackboard email tools to communicate with students

Remote Assistance from the Instructional Designer

Remote assistance will be provided this week in person or via Zoom to help individuals with online course and Blackboard issues.

Zoom Support for Faculty and Staff (via Zoom) is facilitated by Paul D. DeNu, Technical Communication Specialist

Paul is available by appointment to provide individual training, help with concerns related to Zoom, and answer technology-related questions.
