Professor Julie McLaughlin, Chair of Cincinnati State’s First-Year Experience (FYE) Department, was the co-presenter for three sessions during the Workshop on First-Year Student Success in the Community College, hosted by the National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition.

Sessions Julie co-presented included:

  • Underprepared and Misunderstood: Strategies for Meeting Challenge with Support
  • Active Learning Strategies: Engaging Students in the First Year of College
  • Lessons Learned in (Re)Developing and Administering a First-Year Experience Program

Julie was chosen along with four other colleagues from across the U.S. based on expertise in the first-year experience at community colleges. The two-day workshop, which was attended by about 50 participants, took place prior to the 42nd Annual Conference on The First-Year Experience, held Feb. 3-6 in Los Angeles.

About 1,800 higher education professionals attended the Annual Conference, which provides an ongoing forum for sharing experiences, concerns, and accomplishments related to supporting student learning, development, and success in the first year of college.
