A group of second-year students in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) – Cardiovascular program, along with DMS Professor Jackie Turner and DMS Program Chair Rebecca Boggs, participated in the annual Global Mission Health Conference 2022 that took place in Louisville, Kentucky, in November.

Global Mission is the world’s largest conference that focuses on linking individuals and mission organizations to provide provide medical-related service in US and international locations.

  • The conference included training for physicians and other medical professionals who will travel to international destinations, including learning how to perform Extended Focused Assessment for Sonography in Trauma and point-of-care ultrasound exams.
  • Professor Turner said the Cincinnati State students and faculty members “were instrumental” in providing instruction for those who are not ultrasound medical professionals on how to locate and identify medical situations using hand-held portable and cordless ultrasound devices. Professor Turner is a member of the Executive Board of Directors of the International Foundation for Sonography Education and Research (IFSER) organization and was asked to participate in the conference training sessions. She said, “I thought this was a great way to give back to our profession and to introduce our students to mission work opportunities.”

Jackie added, “We had a great time, and the Global Mission organization was truly appreciative of Cincinnati State’s contribution.”
