May 28, 2021

The Cincinnati State Board of Trustees voted at the May 25 Board meeting to renew President Monica J. Posey’s contract for five years.

“We are delighted to announce the renewal of President Posey’s contract,” said George Vincent, chairperson of the Board of Trustees.

“Her service to Cincinnati State has been exemplary and we look forward to her leadership over the next five years,” Mr. Vincent added.

“It is my honor to serve as President of Cincinnati State with a very supportive Board of Trustees during this era of strong collaboration with our faculty, staff, and administration,” Dr. Posey said.

Dr. Posey became president in 2016. Under her leadership, which focuses on collaboration and teamwork, Cincinnati State has improved retention and graduation rates, significantly improved its fiscal position, and opened new Welcome, Transfer and Career Centers.

  • In addition, the College reached new levels of fundraising as part of College’s 50th anniversary, enhanced engagement with community leaders and government officials, and increased public awareness of Cincinnati State.

  • Dr. Posey also led Cincinnati State’s successful efforts to become one of the first community colleges in Ohio to deliver bachelor’s degrees.

  • The College also achieved Higher Learning Commission re-accreditation including the growth of accredited programs, expanded articulation agreements with regional universities, and increased partnerships with regional high schools.

  • During the past 14 months, Dr. Posey oversaw Cincinnati State’s successful response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which required the College to rapidly expand its online curriculum and then safely resume essential in-person lab classes.

Dr. Posey said, “Going forward, my goals include continuing to modernize the College’s teaching facilities, providing additional supports to enhance student success, and offering new programs and services to meet employer needs.”

In her remarks at the Board meeting, Dr. Posey noted that the accomplishments of the past five years are the result of work by all of the College’s “amazing” employees.

Cincinnati State Faculty Senate President Lesli Rice said, “We are looking forward to continuing our work together with Dr. Posey.”

Dr. Posey has been with Cincinnati State for 29 years, serving as assistant dean, director of institutional research, academic vice president, and provost before being named interim president in September 2015 and president the following year.

Dr. Posey is the first president hired from within Cincinnati State since it expanded to become a community and technical college in 1994. She is also the first African American female president of a major educational institution in the Cincinnati area.
