Condolences to the family of Herbert Brown

Herbert Brown, a past member and chair of the Cincinnati State Board of Trustees, and a long-time leader in local business and education, died Mar. 11, 2021.

Mr. Brown was appointed as a Cincinnati State Trustee by Ohio Governor Richard Celeste. He was a Board leader when the Trustees approved the institution’s change to a community and technical college in 1993.

Mr. Brown also received an honorary degree from the College.

Mr. Brown was a senior vice president of Western & Southern Financial Group and continued to serve after his retirement as a consultant to the Western & Southern president.

He served for nine years on the Cincinnati Board of Education, including as president, and successfully guided a levy campaign after 10 previous campaigns had failed.

In 2015, Mr. Brown was honored with “Greatest Living Cincinnatian” recognition.

Visitation and services will be Friday, Mar. 19. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Thomson Hall and Jordan Funeral Home.
