CState CCP student (and associate degree grad) is selected as U.S. Presidential Scholar

Jay Patel, who received the Associate of Science degree from Cincinnati State on May 7, is one of only 161 high school students from throughout the U.S. who has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Presidential Scholar for 2023.

Jay earned his associate’s degree– with a perfect 4.0 grade point average– while participating in Cincinnati State’s College Credit Plus (CCP) program.

He also will graduate this week from the Butler Tech Bioscience Center and his home high school, Lakota West.

In addition to simultaneously completing his high school diploma and associate’s degree, Jay earned phlebotomy technician certification through the Butler Tech Bioscience Center.

According to an article in the Butler County Journal-News, the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects scholars annually based on their academic success, artistic and technical excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as a demonstrated commitment to community service and leadership.

Jay is recognized in the Career and Technical Education category of Presidential Scholars.

More than 5,000 high school seniors were eligible for consideration as Presidential Scholars based on test scores and other criteria.

Jay will continue his education at the University of Cincinnati studying medical science, and then plans to attend medical school.
