“Disaster Day 2.0” simulation is Nov. 7

On Friday, November 7, 2025, starting at 1:30 p.m., Disaster Day 2.0 will take place on Clifton Campus. The simulated disaster is an active shooter event, beginning after the shooter has been contained. More than 60 students and faculty members representing 11 different programs in Cincinnati State’s Health and Public Safety Division will participate in the real-time, simulated response to the scenario.

Cincinnati State conducted the first interdisciplinary Disaster Simulation in Fall of 2024, with students responding to a simulated car accident that included multiple victims.

  • The Disaster Day drill gives students a unique opportunity to collaborate across disciplines, simulate a real-world emergency scenario, and strengthen their readiness to respond effectively in high-pressure situations. The goal is to foster students’ development and application of critical thinking and clinical judgment skills.
  • The participating students described last year’s experience as “awesome,” “amazing,” and “a great opportunity to get first-hand experience working with others.”

For Disaster Day 2.0, the students will be joined by the Cincinnati State Police Department and more than 30 volunteers, including local medical professionals who will oversee the drill, volunteers serving as simulated victims, and students from the College’s Audio/Video Production degree program, who will record the event while taking the role of journalists. Local TV stations have been invited to cover the simulation also.

If you would like to assist with Disaster Day 2.0 by acting as a victim with injuries, or helping with set-up, clean-up, and other tasks needed to ensure the simulation runs smoothly, contact Health Simulation Lab Director Rachael Meier at rachael.meier@cincinnatistate.edu.
