Cincy State will host “Saturday Hoops” tournament on Aug. 23

Aug 13, 2025

On Saturday, August 23, 2025, Cincinnati State’s Clifton Campus Gym will host the Saturday Hoops 3×3 Basketball Tournament and Backpack Giveway, where local students in grades 7 to 12 will play basketball and get ready for the school year by receiving new backpacks and school supplies.

The Cincinnati State Black Male Initiative (BMI) student organization is helping to host the event for the students and their parents, as part of the Saturday Hoops program sponsored by the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative

If you can assist for a few hours between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Aug. 23, volunteers are needed to guide campus visitors; serve as refs, timekeepers, and scorekeepers at the basketball games; assist with set-up and clean-up; and help with other tasks to ensure the day goes smoothly.

  • If you can’t assist on the 23rd but would like to support the event, you can drop off new backpacks and/or school supplies at the Student Activities Office (ATLC 204), or donate funds to BMI to be used for the tournament.
  • If you have questions, reach out to Bryan Dell (bryan.dell@cincinnatistate.edu), Advisor for the BMI group.

Saturday Hoops, sponsored by the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative (CYC), is celebrating more than 20 years of helping to improve kids’ outlook on life and themselves by inspiring them to try new things and make new friends.

Each Saturday morning, participating kids (ages 3-18) can experience a variety of creative, instructional, and physical activities at a Saturday Hoops location.

Volunteer mentors establish a positive environment using themes that include Hard Worker, Cheerful Giver, Overcomer, and Good Steward. Mentors also strive to connect with each kid, build their self-esteem, and promote a safe space to have fun!
