Finance student earns $7,500 scholarship from Great Wolf Lodge

Wilber Lopez Gonzalez, a Finance major and a TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) scholar, is a recipient of a $7,500 scholarship awarded by Great Wolf Lodge. Wilber was selected from more than 450 applicants nationwide based on his commitment to academic excellence, drive to overcome educational barriers, leadership, and service.

Wilber is a lifeguard at the Great Wolf Lodge in Mason, Ohio.

After completing his Finance degree, Wilber hopes to pursue a career in accounting, and continue demonstrating leadership and community service.

In a congratulatory letter, Great Wolf CEO John Murphy and Scholarship President Jason Lasecki commended Wilber’s accomplishments, saying, “We hope this scholarship helps you on your journey to achieve a higher education and sets you on a path to fulfill both your life and career goals.”

“Receiving this scholarship is a true blessing,” said Wilber. “It motivates me, as a first-generation college student, to keep pushing forward. Also, it reminds me that hard work, perseverance, and support from programs like TRIO SSS work!”

TRIO SSS is a federally-funded program that supports first-generation and income-eligible college students.

Latoya Chambers, Wilber’s TRIO SSS Academic Coach, said, “Wilber is an outstanding student and an even more incredible human being. His leadership, kindness, and authenticity make him a joy to work with, and he contributes joy and encouragement to everyone around him.”
