Faculty member’s article published in diabetes education journal

An article by Candice “CJ” Jones was published in the May 2022 issue of ADCES in Practice Journal, a bi-monthly, peer-reviewed publication of the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists.

The journal is a reference source for educators who assist individuals with self-management of diabetes.

CJ’s article, titled “Addressing Health Disparities with Practical Solutions,” describes techniques that can be used by culturally sensitive health care providers to “provide diabetes care that is based on the cultural/ethnic beliefs and values of the individual.”

Recommended techniques include becoming familiar with diversity terminology, actively listening to understand the needs of the individual or group being assisted, and using culturally appropriate and engaging educational materials while providing health care services.
