The Ohio Association of Community Colleges reported on Nichole’s achievements as “a powerful story of resilience and determination, showing how second chances can lead to extraordinary outcomes.”

After facing significant personal challenges that once made higher education feel out of reach, Nichole made the decision to return and rebuild. “Coming back to school wasn’t easy, but it was intentional,” she shared, reflecting on the courage it took to start again.

At Cincinnati State, Nichole said she found “support, encouragement, and a community that saw potential in me, even when I was still learning to see it in myself.”

Now recognized for academic excellence and leadership, she is pursuing a future in law with a mission to advocate for others. She said, “No matter where you begin, or how many times you have to start over, your path can still lead somewhere great.”

In addition to maintaining a 4.0 GPA while pursuing Associate of Applied Business and Associate of Arts degrees, Nichole is working on certificates in Business Management and Computer Applications. She works full-time in restaurant management and leads a community outreach initiative she founded called Helping Hands, which organizes projects such as food drives, holiday giving programs, and other efforts to support local families and organizations.

Nichole also describes herself as a “devoted dog mom to my best friend Gomez, who has been a constant source of motivation and has played a big role in helping me rebuild my life and stay focused on my goals.”

Nichole said her experiences as a member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) at Cincinnati State “completely changed how I see myself as a student.” As a nontraditional student balancing full-time work and a busy schedule, she sometimes felt a little disconnected from campus life, but PTK gave her “a sense of belonging and made me feel like I was truly a more tangible part of my college community, as well as ”confidence to pursue my goals at a much higher level and to truly believe that I belong in spaces I once thought were out of reach.”
