Condolences to the family of Daniel Anderson

Daniel Anderson, Professor of History at Cincinnati State, died September 5, 2025, after a five-year battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 27, starting at 2 p.m., at Thompson, Hall and Jordan Funeral Home (11400 Winton Rd., Forest Park, OH 45240).
Geoff Woolf, Dean of the Humanities & Sciences Division, said, “Anyone who knew him at all will tell you that Daniel was a fine educator, but he was an even better friend. His loss leaves those who knew him well with a void in our lives that will never be filled, but memories that we will always cherish.”
Daniel joined the College as an adjunct instructor in 2007, and he became a member of the full-time faculty in 2012. In addition to teaching, Daniel assisted in the process of revising History department courses for the change from terms to semesters, and he played a key role in gaining state approvals for Cincinnati State courses included in the Ohio Transfer 36 and the Ohio Transfer Assurance Guide.
Daniel also served for several years as co-chair of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department, and he was a driving force for creation and delivery of online History courses.
Daniel was nominated multiple times to receive the House/Bruckmann Faculty Excellence Award.
As faculty advisor to the student group The Cincinnati State Historical Society, Daniel helped facilitate an engaging series of “lunch and learn” lectures on a broad range of topics from “The History of Chocolate” to “The History of Punk Rock” to “The History of Steamboats.” These popular programs were enjoyed by numerous students and employees and helped to build a sense of community for many participants.
Daniel contributed to the College as a member of the Scholarship Committee, co-chair of the Sabbatical Committee, and in roles in other governance groups. He collaborated with others in his department to create a recurring fundraising event, the “Cincinnati State Barbecue Hoedown,” raising hundreds of dollars for student scholarships. Daniel also supported numerous College activities, such as the Giving Challenge, Constitution Day events, and Juneteenth celebrations, as a speaker or facilitator.
Messages of condolence may be shared at the Thompson, Hall and Jordan website.
