TAP Summer Academy at Cincy State helped HS students explore health careers

In June and July 2025, Cincinnati State was a host site for the TAP Health Summer Academy provided by The Health Collaborative. The TAP Health program gives high school juniors and seniors opportunities to explore and prepare for a variety of careers in health fields.

Visiting students participated in hands-on activities in the CState Health Simulation Lab, and they learned about career options in nursing, respiratory care, surgical technology, medical assisting, occupational therapy assisting, and paramedic professions.

Dr. Bonnie Smith, Dean of Health & Public Safety, said, “The students raved about the interdisciplinary approach and the hands-on experiences. Faculty and staff enjoyed the student interaction and are already looking forward to next summer’s TAP group.”

Provost Robbin Hoopes spoke at the TAP Summer Academy graduation ceremony in July, where he congratulated the high school students for taking the initiative to learn about the different roles, saying “Healthcare is a team approach” that relies on important contributions made by many individuals in their distinctive specialties.
