Designer of the first “Jurassic Park” toys will reveal their history on Oct. 17

All members of the College community are invited to learn about the the birth of the Jurassic Park toy line in the early 1990s, from the toy designer who made it happen.

Tim Effler, who served as Director of Advanced Concepts at Hasbro, will share A Perspective on Product Design on Tuesday, October 17, starting at 11 a.m., in the ATLC Auditorium (ALTC 211).

Tim will display rare images from the product design process and explain the design philosophy that guided the creation of the 1993 movie tie-in toys, and still influences the Jurassic Park toys now offered by Mattel.

Tim also will explain how the project team for the toys won support from director Steven Spielberg and even had an impact on the first Jurassic Park movie.

In addition to Jurassic Park, Tim’s career has included designing toy lines for Star Wars, Batman, Ghostbusters, and many other iconic toys. A graduate of the University of Cincinnati, he’s now based in Atlanta where he consults with a select group of clients.

Tim is also the father of Cincinnati State Professor Meredith Effler (in case you were wondering).
