Kroger donation helps fill the Food Pantry

In recognition of Hunger Action Month, Kroger made a large contribution to Cincinnati State’s Surge Cupboard Food Pantry, to help address the impact of food insecurity on local college students.

On September 18, Kroger brought a small truck loaded with shelf-stable products to contribute to the Surge Cupboard.

The donation is part of Kroger’s Zero Hunger Plan, a program that aims to bring awareness to the fight against hunger and boost food donations in local communities.

Local TV stations WLWT (Channel 5) and Fox19 covered the food delivery event.

President Monica Posey said, “We are grateful to Kroger for this donation that will directly help students in need.”

“If students with food insecurities can come to us to get some help, it makes a big difference,” Dr. Posey added.

Cincinnati State’s Surge Cupboard Food Pantry served more than 800 students in the past academic year.

• Students may visit the pantry once a month to receive up to a 3-day supply of food and toiletries at no cost, by showing their student ID card.
• Fall hours are noon to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week.
• The Surge Cupboard location is Room 137 in the Main Building, Clifton Campus.

Students may also visit the Farmer’s Market days hosted by the Food Pantry and receive fresh produce provided by the Freestore Foodbank. The next Farmer’s Market will take place Oct. 12, starting at 11 a.m., on the ATLC First Floor.
