Albert “Al” Leicht, a retired member of the Cincinnati State faculty, died April 12, 2023.

Leicht was a program chair and instructor in the Business Division’s Graphic Communication program (later renamed Graphic Imaging Technology) prior to his retirement in 2007, and he was a significant contributor to the printing industry in Cincinnati.

Faculty member Kathy Freed, co-chair of Graphic Design, said, “Al was always friendly, funny, and down to earth with students and colleagues alike. He was approachable and tried to make the skills he taught understandable in a fun and relatable way.”

She added, “The Graphics Lab has many innovative pieces that he built to help the students and lab work more efficiently. Al’s presence is felt everyday.”

Al’s colleague Gary Walton, retired Graphic Imaging Technology faculty member, said, “Al’s number one quality was that he knew how to be a true friend. Those who were lucky to be his friend knew that meant he would do literally anything for you and give you whatever you needed.”

Walton added, “Al was a master of letterpress printing– no one could cast type or print on our letterpress equipment like Al. And all of our GIT students loved Al. He just was that type of guy: if you knew him, you loved him.”

An open house in Al’s memory took place on April 16.
