CState co-op program as “pathway to success” was featured at SSLI Conference

Cincinnati State’s Cooperative Education program was the focus of an invited presentation at the Student Success Leadership Institute (SSLI) Winter Meeting that was held virtually on February 22 and 23.

SSLI activities are sponsored by the Ohio Association of Community Colleges.

Co-op Coordinators Jayne Dressing (Humanities & Sciences) and Noelle Grome (Engineering & Information Technologies) led the presentation titled “Guided Pathways & Workplace Readiness: How Co-op Education Provides Students with the Tools and Confidence for Success.”

  • The presentation explained how co-op education “connects the dots” for students between the classroom and the workplace, and provides continuous feedback from employers to help academic programs learn more about addressing employers’ needs.
  • Another part of the presentation covered how co-op employers’ assessments of student competencies can assist students individually and also help with learning outcome assessment for accreditation.

Provost Robbin Hoopes noted that presentations selected for the SSLI conference are the result of a competitive process.

“This excellent presentation demonstrated innovative and meaningful ways to engage students, help them find and then stay committed to their educational path, and give them needed skills,” Provost Hoopes said.
