“Mental Health in the College Classroom” seminars are offered by GC3

The Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Connection (GC3) is offering a 3-part webinar on “Mental Health in the College Classroom,” starting Wednesday, February 8, from noon to 1 p.m.

The series is intended for non-clinical members of the academic community, and will consider a variety of ways to enhance student well-being, including strategies that can help students feel supported and capable of succeeding in their classes. 

Cincinnati State faculty members (full-time and adjunct) interested in attending should contact Tammy Smith, Executive Assistant to Provost Hoopes, at tamaree.smith@cincinnatistate.edu. The Provost’s Office will cover the registration fee for faculty participants.

It’s recommended that participants attend all three sessions. Topics covered are:

  • Feb. 8, noon to 1 p.m. – Mental Health in the Classroom – Examine the impact of mental health conditions on student performance, discuss mental health accommodations, and explore practical methods for creating a more equitable class environment.
  • Feb. 15, noon to 1 p.m. – Empathy and Connection – Examine the art of establishing rapport in college classrooms, delving into methods for demonstrating empathy, congruence, and compassion.
  • Mar. 1, noon to 1 p.m. – White Boards & Well-Being: Mental Health Success by Design – Explore ways to weave well-being into the fabric of college courses, examining interpersonal strategies, design considerations, and assorted activities instructors may use to assist students in navigating mental health challenges.  

The seminar facilitators are Dr. Denice N. Robertson, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at Northern Kentucky University, and Chris Lawrence, Program Director for the Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health at Northern Kentucky University.
