Condolences to the family of Richard Weiland

Jan 27, 2023

Richard “Dick” Weiland, a Cincinnati philanthropist and lobbyist, and a past member of the College Board of Trustees, died January 19, 2023.

Weiland served as a lobbyist for the College, and was also a top donor to the College, including a 2011 donation of $500,000 to establish a scholarship program at Cincinnati State in memory of the Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth, a national U.S. civil rights leader.

The Cincinnati Enquirer noted that former Ohio Gov. Bob Taft described Weiland as “one of the leading advocates in Columbus for Cincinnati organizations and nonprofit entities.”

At the Board of Trustees meeting on Jan. 24, President Monica Posey recognized Mr. Weiland’s involvement in the College as a Board member, lobbyist, advocate, and donor. Several Trustees spoke about Mr. Weiland’s impact.

Current Board chairperson John Silverman noted that Mr. Weiland “persuaded me to get involved in the community” and past Board chair George Vincent described Weiland as a “top advocate.” Board member Cynthia Booth spoke about Mr. Weiland’s contributions to the Greater Cincinnati community and said “he will be greatly missed.”

A visitation will take place on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 12:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m., at Wise Center, 8329 Ridge Ave., Amberley Village, OH 45236.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati, Halom House, Talbert House, the Cincinnati Reds Community Fund, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, or a charity of choice.

Messages of condolence may be shared at the website for Weil Kahn Funeral Home.
