Nominations for Faculty Excellence Awards now open

The nomination period for Cincinnati State’s faculty excellence awards is now open.

Nominations for the House/Bruckmann Faculty Excellence Award and the Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award can be submitted anytime prior to the deadline, February 15, 2023, using online nomination forms.

Awards will be presented in Spring Semester 2023.

House/Bruckmann Faculty Excellence Award Process:

  • Two House/Bruckmann awards are presented annually. Any member of the full-time faculty who currently is tenured may be nominated for the award. However, award recipients from the past 5 years are not eligible, and self-nominations are not accepted.
  • The nomination form asks respondents to comment on the nominee’s excellence related to up to 3 of the following 7 criteria:
    • Excellence in Instruction
    • Commitment to Student Success
    • Collaborative Spirit
    • Contributions to the College
    • Contributions to the Community
    • Professional Achievements
    • Other

Note when submitting your nomination form: You may revise or add to a previously submitted nomination until February 15, 2023, but you must use the same computer and browser to do so. To submit a NEW nomination, you will need to clear your browser’s history OR use another computer or browser to do so.

Details for each criterion selected are typed into a textbox that limits your contribution to approximately 300 words. It is easier to draft your nomination language in a Word or text document then copy and paste it into the form.

  • The Faculty Senate will establish a House/Bruckmann Nominee Screening Subcommittee comprised of past award recipients. The subcommittee will examine all nominations and designate up to 5 final nominees.
  • These nominees will be voted on by faculty and academic administrators to determine the 2 recipients of the House/Bruckmann Award.

Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award Process:

  • Up to 5 Adjunct Faculty Excellence Awards are presented annually, with no more than one recipient per division (BTD, EIT, HPS, H&S, and adjunct faculty not assigned to one of the other divisions).
  • Adjunct faculty who may be nominated for the award include those who work in a part-time capacity for the College in assignments that involve instruction, cooperative education coordination, clinical coordination, academic advising, or another faculty role.
  • College full-time staff members who also serve part-time in adjunct faculty roles may be nominated for this award, but their nomination must be based entirely on their work as an adjunct.
  • Nominations can be made by full-time and part-time faculty, academic administrators and staff members, and students. Self-nominations are not permitted.
  • The nomination form asks respondents to comment on the nominee’s excellence related to up to 3 of the following 7 criteria:
    • Excellence in Instruction
    • Commitment to Student Success
    • Collaborative Spirit
    • Contributions to the College
    • Contributions to the Community
    • Professional Achievements
    • Other

Nominations for the Adjunct Excellence undergo a multi-step review process:

  • The Faculty Senate’s Faculty Excellence Committee will send eligible nominations to each nominee’s program or department chair for review.
  •  All nominations supported by program or department chairs will be sent to the applicable administrator (dean or director) for review.
  •  All nominations supported by both the program/department chair and the applicable administrator will be reviewed by the Faculty Excellence Committee.
  •  Program/department chairs and administrators may choose to not forward any nominations from their division to the Faculty Excellence Committee.
  •  If multiple nominees from a division are supported by the program/department chair and the administrator, the Faculty Excellence Committee will review the nomination documentation and seek additional feedback from the program/department chair and administrator to select a recipient for that division.

Background:

The House/Bruckmann Faculty Excellence Awards were established in 1985 to recognize excellence in instruction and co-op/clinical coordination at the College.

  • The awards are named for Clifford R. House, the first president of Cincinnati Technical College, and Alice P. Bruckmann, a member of the College’s first Board of Trustees.
  • Award criteria and selection processes have been revised several times, including changes made to facilitate recognition of varied faculty responsibilities, not limited to classroom instruction and co-op/clinical coordination.

The Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award was established by the Faculty Senate in 2020 and presented for the first time in 2021.
