It’s Cybersecurity Month! (Build your knowledge via online training)

October is National Cybersecurity Month, and Cincinnati State’s Information Technology Services department is providing an online training program to help all members of the College community stay safe while you’re online.

On Oct. 6, employees received a message in your College email with the subject line “You have been enrolled in training.” The message contained a link to 2022 Kevin Mitnick Security Awareness Training, provided by the cybersecurity consulting company KnowBe4.

(Kevin Mitnick is a computer security consultant who once was considered to be the world’s top hacker and who served five years in prison after his 1995 conviction for cyber-crimes. Since his release, he has written several books about online safety and founded companies to help others fight cyber-crime.)

After you click the link in the email message, you’ll see a page with the CState logo, where you can click “Library” and then select “Kevin Mitnick Security Awareness Training” to get started.

The 15-minute training module includes several short videos as well as short online quizzes.

At the end of the module, you’ll see the badges you earned while participating.

The first module helps you identify common tactics that hackers use, recognize the early warning signs of a hacker’s attack, and know the actions you should take to protect yourself and your organization.

Additional training modules will include:

  • Oct. 13: Social Engineering Red Flags
  • Oct. 20: Internet Security and You
  • Oct. 27: Common Threats
