GRAD Cincinnati Summer Scholars enjoyed hands-on learning during 4-day visit to CState

Cincinnati State welcomed more than 20 visiting high school juniors and seniors to experience college opportunities on June 27-30, as part of the GRAD Cincinnati Summer Scholars program.

GRAD Cincinnati is a community-based nonprofit organization that provides academic support to help students from Cincinnati Public Schools “achieve in the classroom, grow as individuals and citizens of the community, graduate from high school, and enter and complete a college education.”

Cincinnati State President Dr. Monica Posey is a member of the GRAD Cincinnati board.

During the four days of interactive experiences at Cincinnati State (three days on Clifton Campus and one day at the Harrison Campus), the high school students spent from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. each day in hands-on learning about College services and academic programs including:

  • Aviation Maintenance Technology
  • Audio/Video Production
  • Chemistry and Physics
  • Culinary and Pastry

According to the event organizers, the high school students said CState provided “the most active experience” of any of their college visits, which included UC Blue Ash and Northern Kentucky University as well as some institutions outside of the Tri State area.

Members of the planning committee were Eimee Dunbar, Ted Kindle, Beth McIlvain, Kim McMillan, Debbie Poweleit, Wade Rhoades, and Janet Schlaak.

College Admissions Representative Ted Kindle, who served as a host for the visiting students, thanked Dr. Posey for sponsoring the Wednesday lunch for the visiting students and thanked a large team of CState faculty, staff, and students who contributed to the week of activities.
