Creative Writing Club hosts Open Mic and author interview on Apr. 6

The Creative Writing Club invites all members of the College community to a “double-header” event on Wednesday, April 6, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The event takes place in the Culinary Kitchen/Theatre, ATLC 043. You can enter the room from the ATLC first floor, across from the Bookstore.

The program starts with a multi-genre “Open Mic,” where all students, faculty, or staff members can share their original written material. A limited number of presentation slots are available, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Then the club welcomes Jessica Strawser for an “Inside The Writer’s Studio” discussion of the writing craft as well as audience Q&A, moderated by club advisor Dr. Ronnie Gladden.

  • Cincinnati resident Jessica Strawser is editor-at-large for Writer’s Digest, where she served as editorial director for nearly a decade.

  • She is the author of several novels that are book club favorites, including Almost Missed You, Not That I Could Tell, Forget You Know Me, and A Million Reasons Why.

  • She served as 2019 Writer-in-Residence for the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County.

  • Her newest book, The Next Thing You Know, was published in March 2022 and is described as “an emotional, resonant story about the power of human connection, love when you least expect it, hope against the odds, and what it really takes to live life with no regrets.”

  • She has written for the New York Times’ “Modern Love” column, Publishers Weekly, and other publications, and is a popular speaker at writing conferences.
