Some of the topics discussed during the Board meeting included:

  • Awarding tenure to faculty member Nick Wahle (see article in Daily News for Jan. 26)

  • Re-electing the Board’s officers to a new term. The officers are George Vincent (Chair), John Silverman (Vice-chair), and Justin Howe (Secretary).

  • Approving the Fact Finder’s recommendations for a new contract with IUOE Unit 2 (International Union of Operating Engineers).

  • An overview of progress on various Facilities construction/maintenance projects.

  • The Financial Report from CFO Chris Calvert, including an affirmation of the fiscal priorities that will guide development of the budget for Fiscal Year 2023, which begins July 1, 2022.
    • Trustee Mark Walton, who serves on the Board’s Finance Committee, noted that the Board’s fiscal priorities include “putting more emphasis on fiscal support for investments” that will strengthen the College by stabilizing enrollment, mitigating aging facilities, and implementing strategic planning projects.
    • Board members discussed the College’s Senate Bill 6 (SB6) score, an indicator of the fiscal health of the institution. President Posey and CFO Calvert said they would provide additional information for the Board at a future meeting to enhance understanding of the SB6 score.
  • Re-affirming the College’s Mission, Vision, and Values statements that “guide the College in serving the public good.” Provost Robbin Hoopes noted that annual affirmation of these statements by the Board is an expectation of the College’s accrediting agency, the Higher Learning Commission.

  • A report on recent activities of the Student Government Association.

  • A report from the Faculty Senate on start-of-semester activities and plans.

    • Dr. Posey shared the planned schedule for Board meetings for the rest of 2022.

    • The President’s Report also included introducing the new President of Cincinnati State AAUP, Marianne Niese.

The next Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for Mar. 25, 2022, at 3:45, in the Conference Center on Clifton Campus.
