Ohio Transfer Module is now Ohio Transfer 36 & all courses will be reviewed

The Ohio Transfer Module was re-named in May as Ohio Transfer 36, and a statewide process of preparing for the review of all Ohio Transfer 36 courses will begin in Fall 2021.

  • The Ohio Transfer Module was created 30 years ago to make it easier for students in Ohio colleges and universities to transfer general education credits among Ohio’s 36 two-year and four-year public institutions.

  • The goal of the Ohio Transfer 36, like the original Transfer Module, is to give students assurance that courses they take at one Ohio public institution can “count” toward their degree if they transfer to another higher education institution in the state.

Each Ohio public college and university publishes a list of Ohio Transfer 36 courses that have been approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education after review by a panel of faculty members from the applicable discipline.

Cincinnati State’s Ohio Transfer 36 courses are published in the College catalog.

  • Ohio Transfer 36 courses include Math, English Composition, Oral Communication, Physical and Natural Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Arts/Humanities.

  • A new category that institutions may add during review of their Ohio Transfer 36 courses is Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion.

The Ohio Transfer 36 revisions will focus on providing flexibility for students based on their own unique situations, while still assuring students their credits will transfer to another institution in Ohio.

  • All institutions must examine all of their current Ohio Transfer 36 courses and re-submit courses for review in a new format that includes course learning outcomes and assessment methods.

  • Institutions also may choose to “retire” current Ohio Transfer 36 courses and/or submit new courses for approval.

  • The review of Ohio Transfer 36 courses using the new criteria will begin in Spring Semester 2022 but institutions have 3 or 4 years to complete the review.

More information will be provided in Fall for the academic departments responsible for making revisions to Cincinnati State’s Ohio Transfer 36 courses.
