Cincinnati State president Monica Posey was interviewed by WLWT-TV (Channel 5) prior to President Joe Biden’s address to Congress on Apr. 28, where President Biden unveiled plans to seek additional funding for community colleges.

President Posey said additional federal funding for traditional infrastructure improvements would allow the College to “invest in instructional equipment” and could support work on deferred maintenance projects for the College’s “old buildings.”

Dr. Posey also was interviewed by WKRC Local 12 TV on Apr. 29 regarding President Biden’s plans for additional funds that would defray the cost of attending a community college.

“Our students have a lot of financial pressures, so anything that would make college more affordable would benefit them,” Dr. Posey said.

According to a report in Inside Higher Education, President Biden’s “American Families Plan” presented to the joint session of Congress on Apr. 28 seeks to provide:

  • $109 billion in new funding to offer two free years of community college education for all Americans.

  • $80 billion of additional Pell Grant funding.

  • $62 billion for a grant program “to invest in completion and retention activities at colleges and universities that serve high numbers of low-income students, particularly community colleges.”
