Candice Jones was featured speaker at Dietetics & Nutrition conference

Candice Jones, Chair of the Dietetics Technology and Pre-Nutrition Science programs, was a featured speaker at the 100th Annual Conference of the Ohio Academy of Dietetics and Nutrition (OAND), held in virtual format on Apr. 16.

Candice delivered a presentation titled “Examining Race as a Metric in Healthcare: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.”

  • The presentation examined the history of how “race” has become a vital metric when collecting health data, and how its use and misuse in research and practice has led to significant health disparities.
     
  • The presentation included discussion of how past research should be interpreted by nutrition professionals and applied to practice to improve outcomes, as well as recommendations for future research.

Candice is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist with the Christ Hospital Health Network, and she serves as Co-Chair of the OAND Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee.
