Virtual Commencement 2020 starts Aug. 9 at 3 p.m.

Cincinnati State’s 2020 Commencement will “premier” on Sunday, Aug. 9, at 3 p.m.

The pre-recorded video event will be available starting on Sunday at 3 on the College website’s Commencement page: https://www.cincinnatistate.edu/commencement.

Viewers can replay the 1-hour video ceremony as many times as they wish, on any device.

Each of the College’s 1,098 graduates in the Class of 2020 will see their name highlighted as part of the video ceremony.

The Commencement video was prepared with assistance from Storyocity, a production and motion design studio founded by Cincinnati State graduates.

The keynote speaker for Commencement is Rob Portman, a U.S. Senator for Ohio.

Others who will be part of the Commencement event include:

  • Honorary Degree recipient Barbara Turner, president and chief operating officer of Ohio National Financial Services, Inc. and a member of the Cincinnati State Board of Trustees since 2018.

  • Distinguished Alumni Award recipient Jason Asic, ’04, chief operating officer for Mercy Health West Hospital in Cincinnati and a board member of the Cincinnati State Alumni Association.

  • Three student speakers from the Class of 2020 – Judith Kafando (Associate of Applied Business, Accounting), Harrison Perin (Associate of Arts & Addiction Studies Certificate), and Lynda Monteith (Associate of Applied Science, Surgical Technology).

Graduating students received an email message this week directing them to the Commencement web page.

Graduates also are receiving a “care package” from the College that should arrive (via postal mail) by Friday.

  • The graduation gifts include a mortarboard and tassel, and a bag of confetti (suitable for simulating the Cintas Center confetti cannon experience, seen in the photo above), as well as a diploma cover and other mementos.

  • In addition, graduating students had the opportunity to pick up “Cincinnati State graduate” yard signs provided by the Alumni Association.

All 2020 graduates are invited to participate in Cincinnati State’s next in-person Commencement, which is expected to take place at Xavier University’s Cintas Center in 2021.
