Cincy State hosted basketball & back-to-school event for local students

Cincinnati State hosted about 80 students from toddlers to teens, and about 35 parents, mentors, and volunteers at the Saturday Hoops/Back to School event on August 23. 2025.

The day of activities, including basketball games, school supply giveaways, college information tables, food, and more, was sponsored by the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative and their Saturday Hoops program, and other partner organizations. Cincinnati State’s participation was coordinated by the Black Male Initiative (BMI) student organization.
Admissions staff member Bryan Dell, the BMI advisor, said, “It’s great to be part of an institution that believes in supporting the community, and BMI was proud to partner with Saturday Hoops to bring youths together for a day of fun, food, educational information, and basketball. Providing positive environments is important to help young people in making better decisions.”
Bryan noted that several students in attendance commented on how much they enjoyed their day at Cincinnati State.
Amy Thompson, President and CEO of Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, said, “Bryan Dell orchestrated an amazing day and did a fantastic job, along with several others from Cincinnati State who went above and beyond to help out with the event.”
“Overall, Cincinnati State showed up as a strong, amazing team,” Thompson added.
