First group of prize winners announced for Student Vax Incentive Program

Brandie Woods is the winner of the first $1,000 prize drawing in the Student Vaccination Incentive Program.

Brandie, a Pre-Business Administration student, received her check on Oct. 6 from Shane Winslow, President of the Cincinnati State Student Government Association.

Brandie said she got the COVID-19 vaccination to protect her own health and "for my grandchildren who can’t get the vaccine yet.”

More than 480 Fall Semester students have entered the Incentive Program as of Oct. 8, and 18 students have reported receiving their initial dose of the vaccine since the Incentive Program started on Sep. 29.

Faculty members are encouraged to post information about the Vaccination Incentive Program in your Blackboard course.

  • Details about the program, including how to enter, receive gift cards, and qualify for the weekly prize drawing, are available at
  • Fully vaccinated students fill out an eForm to enter the prize drawing. (The form is viewable only to students who are logged into MyCState/MyServices.)
    • Each Wednesday during Fall Semester, 10 prizes of $100 and 1 prize of $1,000 are awarded to students entered into the drawing.
    • A grand prize drawing for $10,000 will take place Dec. 15.
  • Another on-campus clinic is being scheduled, where technicians from Walgreen's will provide the first or second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
    • Students also may receive the vaccine from any authorized provider and bring their vaccination card to Clifton or Middletown campus to receive a $25 gift card.
  • Plans for an Employee Vaccination Incentive Program are in development and details will be announced soon.

Five-year academic calendar is approved

Academic Calendars for the next five years (2022-23 through 2026-27) were approved by the Cincinnati State Board of Trustees at their meeting on Sep. 28.

Provost Robbin Hoopes said key points considered in development of a 5-year calendar included:

  • Complying with Ohio Department of Higher Education semester requirements.
  • Providing sufficient time to enroll new students for Spring semester, by continuing to start the Spring semester in January after the Dr. Martin Luther King Day holiday.
  • Adding a short Spring Break by reducing the "full-length" Summer semester to 14 weeks rather than 15. Using a 10-week schedule for some courses will continue to be an option in Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.

The Calendar Committee discussed options and conducted a faculty survey prior to making recommendations.

Provost Hoopes said this committee will continue to monitor student success data and other calendar-related concerns and may recommend adjustments to calendars for 2022-23 through 2026-27 if warranted.

Members of the Calendar Committee are:

  • Dr. Denise Rohr, Associate Provost
  • Jason Moore, Senior Director of Enrollment Services & Registrar
  • Penny Parsons, Director of Financial Aid
  • Karen Magness-Lewe, Registration Supervisor
  • Abbey Yee, Professor, & Co-Chair of the Academic Policies & Curriculum Committee
  • Kelly Hubbard, Professor
  • Paula Kirch Smith, Professor
  • Jackie Turner, Professor
