Revised "Important Dates Chart 2020-21" is posted

An updated "Important Dates Chart" for academic year 2020-2021, prepared by the Office of the Registrar, has been posted on the "Calendars" page of the College website.

To view and download the revised chart, go to

(The Important Dates Chart is the second PDF on this web page-- the first PDF is the Pocket Calendar for 2020-21.)

Changes published in the revised Important Dates Chart include:

  • Fall 2020 - drop for 50% refund on full semester classes - deadline was changed to Sep. 10, 2020
  • Fall 2020 - No Show processing for full semester classes - date was changed to Sep. 18, 2020
  • Spring 2021 - Priority Registration start date changed to Oct. 26, 2020
  • Spring 2021 - Open Registration start date changed to Nov. 2, 2020
  • Spring 2021 - Deleted the dates for "registration with Instructor Consent required" - as in recent past semesters, students will be allowed to continue registering for classes with open seats during the first week of the semester, without instructor consent

Registrar Jason Moore said students should be able to view Spring 2021 schedule information around Oct. 12; however, this date is subject to change based on the processing of schedule changes.

  • Spring Semester 2021 will have a mix of Web, Live Web, and in-person classes that will be similar to the Fall 2020 schedule.
  • The Academic Response Team recommended to Provost Hoopes that Spring schedule information should not be released to students until accurate information about class formats has been updated in Colleague.

New resource available to help with Zoom teaching

Cincinnati State has licensed the PDF version of Keith Folse's book Teaching with Zoom: A Guide for Complete Beginners for use by all College faculty members.

The PDF is available from the COVID-19 Faculty Resources Blackboard site, in the Zoom Support and Info section of the site.

The file is not to be distributed (in print or PDF form) to others outside of the College's teaching community.

Folse is a professor at the University of Central Florida with previous experience in secondary education.

In the author's Foreword, he says:

Teaching a class with Zoom can be a great experience if you can master a few of Zoom’s practical features. To this end, I’ve written this book to help my fellow teachers who are also trying to figure out how to teach their classes well with Zoom. Good luck, everyone!

Chapters of the book are:

  1. Introduction to Zoom for Teachers
  2. Before You Begin to Plan Your Course Using Zoom
  3. Creating Your Zoom Virtual Classroom
  4. Teaching Your Class
  5. Assessing Your Students
  6. Security and Privacy Issues
  7. Zoom Comments from Students, Parents, and Teachers
  8. Troubleshooting Common Problems
  9. Learning More

Your Public Library can help you register to vote

National Voter Registration Day took place earlier this week-- but it's certainly not too late to register.

The Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library would like everyone to know you can register to vote and submit an Ohio vote-by-mail application at any branch of the Public Library.

The Library has the required paper forms, and after individuals complete the forms the Library will send them to the Hamilton County Board of Elections.

Faculty members are encouraged to share information with students, too.
