Two days of ENGAGE helped 600 visitors get to know CState
ENGAGE events on Thursday, Oct. 10, and Friday, Oct. 11, welcomed over 600 high school students and their teachers, counselors, and parents, along with many adult learners, to Cincinnati State's Clifton Campus.
Visitors to both ENGAGE events learned about the programs and services offered by Cincinnati State during interactions and conversations with College faculty and staff members.

- Thursday evening provided an ENGAGE Open House in the Conference Center.
- On Friday, students from 12 area high schools toured the College and gained hands-on experience in their visits to demonstrations from four different program areas.
Tours were led by current students, faculty, and staff members, who helped create a personalized environment for each group of visitors.
After the tours, Friday visitors enjoyed a brown-bag lunch provided by the Midwest Culinary Institute, and then continued visiting exhibits in the Conference Center to learn more about College degree and certificate programs.
GE Aviation is the sponsor for all 2019-20 ENGAGE activities, including the upcoming session for high school counselors in January 2020, and a workshop for high school teachers in June 2020.

Art at BLINK 2019 had CState connections
Two of the works at the 2019 BLINK Art & Light Festival held Oct. 10 to 13 were created by graduates of Cincinnati State's Graphic Design program.
Acording to CityBeat, the four-day festival "drew at least 1.25 million people — and perhaps as many as 1.5 million people — to downtown, OTR and Covington."
“Through Neon” (photo above), a projection above Aladdin’s Eatery on Main Street, was designed and animated by freelance animator/artist Greg D’Amico, whose official BLINK biography stated, "Almost a decade ago, while studying graphic design at Cincinnati State, Greg D’Amico fell in love with animation."
CityBeat described Greg's work as a "must-see" part of the Festival, and said it was "inspired by the retro aesthetics and neon works of the 1940s and ‘50s, ... in swirls of hot pink, highliter green and neon yellows, oranges and blues."
Graphic Design graduate Mike Wolfram, whose animation/motion graphics company is Foster & Flux, designed "Entropy," a projection that appeared on Memorial Hall on Elm Street in Over-the-Rhine.
Mike described his work as, "highlighting the building’s underlying geometry, shapes will devolve from being clean and orderly into a more colorful and amorphous mixture. The piece challenges the notion that degeneration and beauty are at odds with each other."

Foster and Flux also contributed works to Lumenocity 2015 and BLINK 2017.
For BLINK 2019, Cincinnati State was one of three official Metro Park & Ride locations, offering free parking to BLINK attendees. A report on WCPO.com said that nearly 15,000 rides were provided from the three locations.
Chief of Advancement Elliott Ruther said the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber and Metro reached out to the College about becoming a Park & Ride location as a result of Dr. Posey's College advancement efforts in the community.

Have fun & win prizes at Fright Fest 2 on Oct. 31
The Cincinnati State Horror Club and the Student Activities Office invite all goblins, ghosts, and ghouls of every kind to attend the Second Annual Fright Fest on Clifton Campus, on Halloween, Thursday, Oct. 31.
Fright Fest events take place in the Culinary Demonstration Kitchen (ATLC 043, but you can enter on the ATLC first floor, near the Bookstore).
Event organizers forecast a "phantasmagoric smorgasbord of fun," including three screenings of the movie Us, free popcorn and candy, and a pumpkin design contest.
- Us, the 2019 horror film written and directed by Jordan Peele, will be on screen starting at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m.
- Students are invited to compete in the pumpkin design contest starting at noon.
- Student Activities will supply the pumpkins and the tools/materials for decorating
- Entries will be judged on creativity and best use of the pumpkin
- Winners will be announced around 3 p.m. The prizes (in the form of "credit" loaded on your Surge Card) are:
-1st place: $25
-2nd place: $15
-3rd place: $10
So plan to don your ghoulish attire, exercise your pumpkin-decorating prowess, and join in the fun on Halloween!
Another prize drawing today for Giving Challenge contributors
If you haven't yet turned in your pledge form for the Internal Annual Fund Giving Challenge, you still have time to pledge and be part of today's prize drawing.
- Today, Oct. 18, at 3 p.m., everyone who has submitted a campaign pledge to the Advancement/Development Office (ATLC 337) will be in the drawing for a pair of tickets to "Jingle Bell Rock" on Dec. 6.
This festive evening of dinner, dancing, and entertainment is sponsored by the Cincinnati State Alumni Association.
- Faculty member Janet Schlaak was the Oct. 11 winner of the coveted Grill Master Pack from Queen City Sausage.
The Giving Challenge for 2019-2020 concludes Oct. 29, and Coin Wars competition continues for another week, until Oct. 25.
The goal of the Internal Annual Fund Giving Challenge is 100% participation. All donations-- small or not-so-small-- are important.
