Common Time on Sep. 16 offers help with assessment activities

Common Time on Monday, Sep. 16, is a workshop to support faculty and staff members who are involved with planning, deploying, and analyzing results from program and departmental assessment activities.

Common Time starts at 3 p.m., in the Conference Center on Clifton Campus, and is open to all employees.

The opening portion of the workshop will be used to present information to all and will be available via streaming media at https://us.bbcollab.com/guest/c5f9cffc121f4cb2a9ad6d7b902976a6.

However, anyone seeking help or guidance for assessment-related tasks is welcome to stop by the Conference Center anytime between 3 and 4:30 for individual assistance.

Provost Robbin Hoopes and assessment leaders Dean Geoffrey Woolf and Associate Dean Denise Rohr will provide help with assessment tasks such as:

  • Honing your program/department learning outcomes
  • Formulating your assessment research question
  • Collecting data
  • Analyzing results and taking action

"Providing results of program assessment is essential to this year’s Annual Academic Self-Study," Provost Hoopes said. "The Common Time will be a College-wide work session on assessment."

"Departments and programs also could use this time to work on assessment in their divisions," Provost Hoopes said. "If questions come up, we will be available in the Conference Center to assist as needed."

College Archives exhibit celebrates 50th anniversary

From the College Archives: The Cincinnati Enquirer announced (in March 1966) plans to form a new "co-op technical school" in Cincinnati.

The Cincinnati State College Archives invites you to visit a new exhibit: Celebrating 50 Years of Cincinnati State in the News, 1969-2019, which can be viewed both in person and online.

Cincinnati State has been in the headlines many times over the years, and the Archives include an extensive collection of newspaper and magazine articles about the College.

This display features a sampling of some of the stories and photos that help celebrate and tell the story of the College over the past 50 years.

There’s also a "bonus" exhibit that displays the history of the College's logo.

To see the display in person visit the Library on Clifton Campus (display case is to the left after you enter the Library) or explore the online exhibit at http://cinstatearchives.com/50years.

If you have questions--or materials to donate-- contact College Archivist Tracey Stivers at 569-1608 or send email to archives@cincinnatistate.edu.

ENGAGE Ambassadors needed to guide guests on Oct. 11

ENGAGE | Students 2019 takes place Friday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Over 400 high school students are expected to attend this year's event on Clifton Campus.

An ENGAGE Community Open House will be offered on Thursday, Oct. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m., open to all members of the public.

ENGAGE events are sponsored by GE Aviation.

Faculty and staff members are needed on Oct. 11 to serve as "ENGAGE Ambassadors" who will lead groups of visiting students (and their teachers/chaperones) around campus to learn more about Cincinnati State, including introductions to the College's academic programs and student support services.

Ambassadors will help visitors from 8 to 11:30 a.m. To sign up to assist, visit: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0D4CA9AC2AA3FC1-engage.

If you have questions, contact Gretchen Cook (gretchen.cook@cincinnatistate.edu).

CState Warrior Run Team seeks participants

Cincinnati State's Warrior Team is seeking participants for the annual Warrior Run: The Race for Life.

The 5K walk and 1-mile run event takes place Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, starting at 5:15 p.m., in Mariemont, Ohio.

The event honors lives lost to suicide, and raises funds for 1N5.org, the James W. Miller Memorial Fund.

This non-profit organization, founded in 2008, provides funding for mental health education programs at Cincinnati State and more than 40 other Greater Cincinnati high schools, colleges, and universities.

Your participation in the Warrior Run directly benefits Cincinnati State students by bringing educational resources to campus to assist the 1-in-5 teens and adults who deal with mental illness, and to help those who are affected by mental illness of family members or friends.

To join the Cincinnati State Warrior Team, go to https://www.classy.org/event/warrior-run/e233007.

Click the "Register" button, choose "Join a Team," and then select the team name "Cincinnati State Technical and Community College."

  • On the team page, you can register for the 5K walk ($35), the 1-mile run ($30), or register just to attend the family-friendly afterparty ($10) that begins around 6 p.m.

  • Those age 22 and under (including student members of the CState team) can register for $10.

  • A new option this year is the "virtual race." For $5, you can register, run or walk from any location at any time, and still be considered part of the team!

If you can't participate but wish to donate to the CState Team, go to https://www.classy.org/event/warrior-run/e233007, click the "Donate" button, and enter the team name "Cincinnati State Technical and Community College."

If you have questions, contact Warrior Team member Heather Hatchett (heather.hatchett@cincinnatistate.edu).
