Common Time on Jan. 28 celebrates service to College

Common Time on Monday, Jan. 28, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., is the annual Service Anniversary Awards event, recognizing more than 80 Cincinnati State employees for their years of service to the College.

Common Time takes place in the Main Building Conference Center on Clifton Campus.

At this year's Service Anniversary event, President Monica Posey will present service award pins to employees who observed their 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th, or 35th anniversary of continuous employment at the College during calendar year 2018.

"Continuous employment" may include serving as an adjunct faculty member or part-time employee prior to becoming a full-time employee.

Guest MCs this year are Tom Hale and Destiny Howard, who will (among other responsibilities) provide "fun facts" about those being recognized.

Light refreshments will be available.

Please join your colleagues for this celebration of dedicated service to the College.

If you can't attend in person, the event will be available through live-streaming at

When the government partial shutdown ends, Cincinnati State hopes to become the first college in Ohio with its own brewing permit.

Brewing Science Program Chair Carla Gesell-Streeter said the application for a brewing permit was submitted to the U.S. Treasury's Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau prior to the partial shutdown-- but now is on hold until the agency begins operating again.

The requested permit would allow Cincinnati State to brew, sell, and distribute its own craft beer on site.

Carla had hoped Cincinnati State would receive its permit by early February, but now it's unclear when the permit might be received.

The Ohio Department of Commerce's Division of Liquor Control Licensing has already said a State permit will be issued after the Federal permit is awarded.

An event is planned for April 20 that will showcase student-produced beers-- if the permits have arrived.

Carla said initially, student craft beers will be available in the Summit Restaurant. In the future, she hopes it will be possible to have an on-campus taproom.

Coverage of Cincinnati State's quest for a brewing permit has been covered by media in Dayton and Akron as well as locally.

Psychology Club welcomes participants
